Parlament
The construction of the building started 1885, on the occasion of the Millenium celebrations. It was constructed by Imre Steindl, who unfortunately did not live to see the completion of the building. The Parlament is 268 meter long, 123 meter wide and 96 meter tall; it has 691 rooms and 27 gates. On the side from the Danube is the main front, but the official main entrance looks out over the Kossuth square. On the walls inside and outside 242 statues can be counted. The walls are built
from limestone-bricks, which – in consequence of the acid rains – started crumbling, so they had to be replaced by harder stones. These works are still in process, so around the Parlament there’s often scaffolding put up. The building currently serves as the seat of the national assembly. The main attractions inside are the Holy Crown and the Dome Hall.
